WALKING TOUR OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAITS IN OXFORD COLLEGES $WITH BETTINA VON ZWEHL, PHILLIPPA JAMES AND FRAN MONKS

This walking tour of contemporary photographic portraits will include works in three Oxford Colleges.

Accompanied by the artists themselves, we will visit Bettina von Zwehl's portrait of Dr Claire Craig in Queen's College, Phillipa James' exhibition Celebrating 50 Years of Women at Jesus College and Fran Monks' 28-portrait installation in Keble College Dining Hall. 

The tour will commence at Queen’s College, meeting in front of the college at 2pm and will walk between the colleges. 

BETTINA VON ZWEHL

Bettina von Zwehl is a German artist who lives and works in London. She has centred her artistic practice on photography, installation and archival exploration evolving through artist-residencies in museums.

PHILLIPA JAMES

Philippa James uses portrait photography to explore feminism and social inequality. Her practice is currently supported by Arts Council England, her work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, and in 2020 her project 100 Women of Oxford was published as a photobook by The North Wall Arts Centre.

FRAN MONKS

Fran Monks is a British portrait artist. She is best known for celebrating the under-celebrated through her painterly photographic portraits of individuals who are shaping our world.
